Dr. Philip J. Rosenthal for Congress
On August 21 Congressman Nadler announced he would support the Iran nuclear deal. I was appalled our representative would do this against the will of his constituents, and to the grave detriment of our safety and national security. Although I had never run for office, on that day I resolved there must be accountability and that after 24 years, we need a new voice in Congress.
As your representative, Dr. Philip J. Rosenthal wants to give you a strong voice in preserving the values and Constitutional liberties that make America the greatest nation on earth and New York City its greatest city.
We are so fortunate to live in the greatest city of the most prosperous and powerful country the world has ever seen. We have by far the world’s most vibrant economy, strongest democracy, and are the only military superpower. We also are blessed with the best system – our free market economy in concert with our Constitutional liberties just make things work better than anywhere else. We and our children and grandchildren have a glorious future – ours for the taking – if we are not so foolish to throw it away.
Shockingly, we are all too willing to put our future at risk, and the Iran deal is the leading example. It released over $100B to the world’s greatest state sponsor of terrorism, guarantees that Iran will become a threshold nuclear power in no more than 10 or 15 years, allows Iran to develop ballistic missiles that could deliver a nuclear warhead to the United States, and likely will set off a nuclear arms race in the Middle East. On top of that, we completely ignored that the deal creates an existential threat to our critical ally Israel, and elevates a regime that encourages chants of “death to America” and “death to Israel” into a regional superpower.
With the right stewardship of our nation, Dr. Philip J. Rosenthal knows our best days are surely ahead of us. However, if we take our strength and our liberty for granted, both will be lost and our children and grandchildren will be much worse off than we are. Together we can safeguard America's future.
The Iran deal is just the tip of the iceberg. For example, our treatment of Israel has been shameful. Secretary Kerry called Israel an apartheid state, the President has threatened to withdraw American support for Israel at the UN, and the Administration just indicated virtual support for European labeling of Israeli products. I am running because New York needs a representative who can distinguish between an ally and an enemy with clarity, and who will speak up for allies like Israel and our national security when it counts the most.
As your representative, I also want to give you a strong voice in preserving the values and Constitutional liberties that make America the greatest nation on earth and New York City its greatest city. When we learn that some students at Yale – my alma matter – actually supported a petition to repeal the First Amendment, we must speak out loudly and clearly to defend freedom of speech on campus. When we hear a sickening chant directed against the police who risk their lives to protect us -- “pigs in a blanket; fry them like bacon!” -- we must not hesitate in our condemnation. When we realize our veterans may die while waiting for months to receive health care, we cannot stay silent. When we hear young people are giving up on the American Dream and demanding entitlements instead of unlimited opportunity, we know our great republic is at risk.
With the right stewardship of our nation, our best days are surely ahead of us. However, if we take our strength and our liberty for granted, both will be lost and our children and grandchildren will be much worse off than we are. Together we can safeguard America’s future. Please join me.
